hello friends,
The Textile Clothing and Footwear Union of Australia Workers Strength Team
is holding an election movie fundraiser at 5pm the evening of Sunday 14
July 2002 at the Nova Cinema in Carlton. The Movie being screened is "Bend
it Like Beckham"
Gurinder Chadha's (Bhaji On The Beach, What's Cooking) latest film broke
box-office records in it's native UK and US. The film follows soccer-mad
teenager Jess (Shaheen Khan), who has to keep her soccer training secret
from her conservative, traditional Indian family. Jess develops into a star
for her team, leading them to the final which happens to fall on the same
as her big sister's all-out Indian wedding. Like a cross between Billy
Elliot and Monsoon Wedding, Bend It Like Beckham is a gloriously vibrant
explosion of comedy, music and culture.
Following on from the world cup soccer action, how could ya miss it, be
there or be square...
