KAN YAMA KAN . . .
(ONCE UPON A TIME . . .)
Once upon a time . . . there was a king with a stone for a heart . . .
soldiers walked a war torn land . . . a father kissed a child goodbye .
. .a boat set sail on a dark dark sea . . . children played in the
desert sand . . . a singer sang songs of a land of hope . . .

their flight, their journey to Australia, their reception and
incarceration in detention, and their lives in the community since their
release.
Plus professional actors Alice Garner (Seachange & Secret Life of Us)
and Majed Shoukor, singer/songwriter Kavisha Mazella, Dursan Acar,

OVERLAND CONFERENCE: RULING CLASS RULING CULTURE: 25 YEARS ON . . .
Who is in control?
Marking the twenty-fifth anniversary of RW Connell's ground breaking
book, Ruling Class Ruling Culture, 30 writers and intellectuals from
Australia and around the globe will converge to partake in a three-day
conference of the same name. Hosted by overland, Ruling Class Ruling
Culture will feature a keynote address by Connell, in which he will
update his study to look at the operation of the Australian ruling class
in the last quarter of a century.
At a time when classic models of class analysis have become fashionable,
Ruling Class Ruling Culture will take a fresh look at cultural, economic
and political agents of power and their relevance in understanding class
dynamics today.
The facts of massive and rapidly worsening income inequality in
Australia are clear and startling. An increasing number of people are
feeling insecure and pressured in their work and life. Rarely
considered, though, is the prospect that those at the top of society may
be involved in the perpetration of this state of affairs.
"Overland's robust voice, based on the ethos of fraternity and social
justice, is eminently valuable to our culture and community" - Tom
Keneally, Booker Prize winner (1982)

SKA TV - ACCESS NEWS Relaunch
Access News is an alternative news program that focuses on
environmental, political and social justice issues. Media without the
mainstream! Access News is produced by volunteers - video activists,
culture saboteurs, mischief makers + others who want to see some 'real'
news on television. ACCESS NEWS = REAL NEWS.
Rather than just playing a thirty-second clip of a rally as other news
services do - half of which contains opinion from the journalist and the
other half a summary from the cops - access news talks to community
activists and tries to capture the mood and the intention of a
demonstration - the act of broadcasting itself becomes an act of
protest" said access news's Nitennis Davies.

ROD QUANTOCKíS BOREDOM PROTECTION POLICY: An Inaugural State of the
Nation Address and Evening of Comic Vengeance
Direct from his 2002 Comedy Festival triumph, ëScum Nationí, Melbourne
comedy legend and the comedian they said killed Kennett is ready to take
up his hatchet-of-humour once more and get stuck into everything from
our Incredible Shrinking P.M. to The War on Trevor. Rod Quantock applies
himself to the geo-eco-socio-political post-S11 landscape. . . because a
comedian has to do what a comedian has to do.
'Rod Quantock is our best political comedian. He may even be our best
comedian.í - The Herald Sun (of all places!)
'A living Melbourne treasure' - The Age
'Sophisticated satire, unpretentious, daffy. His easy rambling fills the
stage. Clever, simple and acidic ... a comedian for thinkers' - The
Melbourne Times
'A gloriously shambling style, punctuated by sudden gags and proposals
of Swiftian excess... He is the archetypal wise fool adrift in a dark &
dangerous
world.' - The Australian
