Dear friends and supporters,

"WORST OF WOOMERA", SECOND EDITION

"The Worst of Woomera" has been an instant success. Requests are
coming in from overseas as well as in Australia, and they are going
out to politicians, whole student bodies at schools, on railways, and
through letter boxes. Several websites have posted the text of the
book.

Many of you are waiting to receive copies of the second edition,
which is due in the next few days. This edition includes four more
chapters than the previous one, bringing readers right up to date
with the events of the past week, i.e. the British Consulate's
rejection of the Baktiyari boys... (Wouldn't it be great if AUSTRALIA
could process asylum applications in seven hours?!)

There are also four more refugee profiles in the second edition.

Due to some concerns expressed by two of the detainees who were
featured in the first edition, there have been changes to their
profiles as well. It's not easy to please everyone, but this second
edition will, we hope, come closer to doing that.

CLOTHING AND BOOKS

Detainees who have signed papers to be sent back to Afghanistan are
quickly being flown out. As well, families are about to be shifted
to the new detention centre in Baxter (Port Augusta). A van load of
brand new warm winter clothing is leaving Newcastle for Woomera
tomorrow. We are hoping that it arrives in time to be given to
detainees before they leave, either for Afghanistan or for Baxter.
Arrangements have been made for the Anglican and Catholic priests to
distribute the clothing, and we are hopeful that the Anglicans and
Catholics will be able to distribute ten boxes full of good quality
children's books that have been donated to us by the CFMEU in Sydney.

ORDERS AND DONATIONS

Volunteers are still needed to distribute large quantities (e.g. 50
to 1,000) of the "Worst of Woomera" booklets to members of the
general public (e.g. via letter-boxes), and we are still keen to get
more volunteers to make donations to help pay for printing the ones
that others distribute.

If you want copies of "The Worst of Woomera", send snail mail details
and the number of copies that you need. There is no set price on the
books, just give what you can afford and order as many as you can
responsibly distribute.

Donations can either be by cheque, made out to Ross Parry, and sent
to Box A678, Sydney South 1235, or by making a deposit at any Westpac
Bank, also in the name of Ross Parry, account number 544-823, branch
number 735-065. There is a bit of a waiting list at the moment, but
we hope to fill all orders within a week or two, as the presses are
rolling continuously.

Love and peace,

Dave, Cherry, and Ross, Refugee Embassy
