It is now thirty years since the publication of Australian Capitalism,
edited by John Playford and Douglas Kirsner. This one-day symposium at
Deakin University will bring together original contributors and other
commentators to discuss the "Then and Now" of Australian capitalism
1972-2002. Participants will be reflecting upon the significance of the
book, the subsequent development of Australian capitalism and a range of
contemporary perspectives on the debates, theories and political problems
addressed in 1972.

Invited Speakers will include:Douglas Kirsner, Humphrey McQueen, John
Hooker, Kelvin Rowley, Helen Hill, Doug White, Peter Beilharz,  Boris
Frankel,  and Sue Kenny.
