PRESS RELEASE I PRESS RELEASE I PRESS RELEASE
AUSTRALIAN NEWSPAPER SHOWS A LACK OF "KNOWLEGE"
Ali Bakhtiyari is being called a liar by the Australian newspaper,
because of their own incompetence. After going to the village of
Charkh, reports could find "no hint of recognition" of Bakhtiyari in
a town of only 1000 people. This is probably because he is not from
the village of Charkh but from the village of Charkh Knowlege.
Mr Cyrus Sarang from the Refugee Action Collective commented "Charkh
Knowlege is between Khoshk-darrah and Anjeel-darrah. It is easy to
understand how this mistake was made, but I thought they would have
taken more care seeing it so strongly affects someone's life."
Mr Sarang continued "The newspaper investigators have used only half
of the village name. While it is easy to make this sort of mistake it
is just as easy to confirm that you have the right village by
checking other information. After only a couple of phone calls we
were able to find out that the chief of Charkh Knowlege is Mohammed
Ali not Sayed Mohammed or Mohammed Zamen. We have the name of ten of
Mr Bakhtiyari's neighbours and the names of the markets and tea house
near his house . This would have helped to show that they were in the
wrong place."
Mr Sarang concluded "It would have been easy for them to check that
they had the right information. It looks like they were trying to
prove that Mr Bakhtiyari was not from Afghanistan so they could
continue to persecute him. He has already passed the language test
that they set for him but they continue to look for excuses to
support their disgusting treatment of him. We call on the government
to end the persecution of the Bakhtiyari family. We would be happy to
take the Australia immigration officials or reporters from the
Australian to Mr Bakhtiyari's village in Afghanistan."
