DetentionWatch: a post-symposium workshop

Sunday 28 September 2003, 4:00pm
Murdoch University South Street Campus
venue to be announced

The success of the Baxterwatch website, and the need to create secure
spaces for reporting of incidents, has recently led to the formation of
the DetentionWatch Project.

Project SafeCom's steering committee member Grant van Riessen, a key
member of the National Anti-Deportation Alliance, the builder and
maintainer of the Baxterwatch.net, will present DetentionWatch, and
provide a training session for prospective contributors, editors and the
public.

This workshop presents an opportunity to introduce refugee advocates and
representatives from human rights agencies to the role of the
DetentionWatch Project in monitoring and documenting the conditions in
detention centres.

HELP US PAY OUR COSTS

Perhaps you cannot attend our September Symposium. If this is the case,
please consider supporting Project SafeCom. We are staunch allies of all
refugee groups around Australia and we support them, often very
effectively, in-kind through information dissemination, supporting their
fundraisers and publishing their news throughout Australia.

Project SafeCom survives from donations, gifts, the sale of some items
through our website and our stalls, and from the proceeds of events like
the September Symposium.

We have found great support and assistance from our event sponsors.
Sponsors include The Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of
Western Australia, The WA Greens, The Australian Democrats of WA, and
West Australians for Racial Equality.

The Symposium is our biggest event thus far, and even with our sponsors
the cost of organising it means a considerable outlay for us. Below are
our details if you wish to support us.

Project SafeCom, P.O. Box 364, Narrogin, Western Australia 6312.
Cheques are payable to Project SafeCom, or you can transfer your funds
directly into our account:

Inc. - Account number: 11564 3900

Hope to see you on 27/28 September!

best regards,
