Canberra Union Voices

10th Birthday Party & Concert - with *Rachel Hore*

Sunday, 7 September, 7.30pm start

Canberra North Bowling Club, McCaughey St, Turner

All union members, friends and music buffs are invited to join Canberra
Union Voices (CUV) at their 10th birthday party & concert. We promise a
night of songs and time to recall the struggles of the labour movement.

Over the decade CUV have been called on to sing for justice and freedom,
often at short notice. It has been five years since we sang at the
(then) ACT TLC protest at the gates of the Indonesian Embassy, including
our first East Timorese song, "Kolele Mai".

Our 10th birthday concert kicks off with the story of East Timor (Timor
Leste) in song. The party concludes with the old favourites (you know
the songs we mean) and a singalong.

The birthday cake will be cut by our founding and astounding musical
director and composer Chrissie Shaw and some special guests.

A special treat - Rachel Hore will also perform. We get a break in the
middle to join you, and listen to the unique sounds of this Blue
Mountains' musician-including songs of the Pacific.

Special guests include many who were present at the very first CUV
rehearsal, including some now prominent in the political and industrial
circles of Canberra and beyond.

CUV gratefully acknowledges the support of the ACT Government. CUV choir
has been able to develop its skills and a new repertoire of East
Timorese and Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander during 2003 with the
assistance of artsACT.

Entry: MFS Members $8, Concessions $10, Visitors $12
