Jon Williams MC is an actor, writer and co-author and performer in
Purgatory Down Under. The production was read at the Opera House on
World Refugee Day, raising money for those released from detention.

Purgatory Down Under is a comedy looking at us as Australians and
exploring the themes of mandatory detention, cultural isolation, and the
dehumanising of attitudes.

Who we are Friends of Refuges North West is a group of concerned
citizens opposed to the mandatory detention of children in immigration
detention in Australia. We are appalled at Australia's treatment of
asylum seekers and are struggling to show compassion to those who have
arrived in Australia seeking respite from racial, political or religious
persecution.

We meet on the first and third Thursday of each month in Cherrybrook. We
extend a warm invitation for people in the area to join us. For further
information call Carol 9869 1737 or Peter 9898 3193.

How many children are in detention?
Villawood 23 children, Maribyrnong 5 children, Baxter 39 children,
Woomera Housing Project 8 children, Perth 1 child, Port Hedland 21
children, Nauru 109 children. Total: 206 children in detention
