Friends,

The 'freedom from poverty bookmark drive' is a major pre-Christmas
fundraiser as part of our ongoing commitment to assist East Timorese women.

East Timorese women continue to be the backbone of their communities.
Today many women preserve a sense of continuity with the past by using
their weaving skills to support their families but often they don't have
access to the capital required to begin.

Our aim is to use the funds raised through this campaign to develop and
maintain networks of rural weavers using the Taibesi centre, located
just out of Dili, as a distribution base (information about Taibesi is
available at www.timorwomen.org). We will arrange for the hand woven
tais bookmarks ordered by you to be woven by women in the remote
districts of East Timor.

We hope to secure orders and payment for a minimum of 5000 tais
bookmarks by the end of October. Each bookmark costs only $6 including
all shipping and transaction costs within Australia.

The campaign provides you with a direct and immediate way to assist
Timorese women. An electronic information pack is available on our
website. All we ask you to do is to encourage your friends and family to
pre-pay for bookmarks via credit card online at:
http://www.timorwomen.org. We are grateful for the secure online payment
facility of KidsnMore, who have generously agreed to process all credit
card payments for us.

Orders and payments will have to be collected by the end of October to
leave sufficient time for weaving and distribution before Christmas and
as each bookmark weighs only 2grams, they make the perfect gift to mail
to loved ones at Christmas!

We also encourage community groups to use the 'freedom from poverty
bookmark drive' as a way to raise funds for their own projects. For
further information please email us at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or visit
us on the web at http://www.timorwomen.org.

Please take this opportunity to help us support East Timorese women in
their efforts to achieve socio-economic independence.

Thank you in advance!
