hey Curt!... well, a few things to consider... he does say that there are
gears, just that they were never installed... when I purchased my used,
1800 Legacy, it was the opposite of this ebay machine... my machine was
setup as a manual machine and all of the CNC upgrade kit was there, but
never installed... so I wonder if Legacy sent out there CNC machines with
both options, manual and CNC... of course, it would be wise to ask the
seller for additional photos to see what "gears" he is referring to, and
how complete are the gears... and also if the pieces are there that hold
the gears and attach to the headstock... I never realistically gave it any
consideration to set up my CNC equipment, as I never intended to do any
hard core, repetitive work(and I have no computer programming expertise at
all!)... so to answer the question, I would set it up as a manual
machine... other points to consider, how much?... starting bid is $3,000,
is there a reserve?... take away the CNC option, is it worth the price?...
there are other 1800's selling for less(with a "make an offer" option!)...
and why that Legacy 2000(or is it a 2200?) in California has not sold yet
is a mystery to me...it has been on the market for a couple of years, I
believe... it's asking price is less than this 1800 and it also has a
"make an offer" option... and one knock I heard on the older-type legacy
CNC's, was that all of the lead screws were very slow in operation... and
why Legacy came out with a rack-and-pinion upgrade... I have never seen
that upgrade in person or a photo of it, but it did speed things up quite a
bit, from what I was able to find out... and last, but not least, is the
inevitable "where is it and what is it going to cost to go get it"
factor... anyway, wouldn't be a bad thing to find under the Christmas tree,
so I guess it comes down to if you have been good or bad this year!...
LOL!... Merry Christmas Eve guys!... enjoy the holidays... Joe B.
