Brigitte,

The first thing I'd do is check the Blade Guide Bearings - and see if they are the older or newer version.  If I wanted to save a bit of cash, I'd remove them, thoroughly clean and re-lube them.  Lastly, re-install and see if that worked.  Also check your owner's manual to BE SURE that the bearings and other components are installed PROPERLY.
I also suggest you go to the "Mothership" and read about the Blade Guides.   Like Curtis sent you - here is a link to the Shopsmith page where you can read about and order the appropriate blade bearings that MAY solve your "squealing".

And here is a link to the Shopsmith website page that shows the "Cool Blocks Blade Guides":

I know I would try these two items to see if they solve the noise issues.  Do you have the "Shopsmith Repair Bill/Invoice" for when the UK Shopsmith repair facility replaced your bearings?  Check to see if they noted the SS Part Number(s) for the replacement bearings they installed.  Hopefully those numbers are different that the ones in the above link.  The newer bearing sets are much better at reducing the squealing.

The Shopsmith User's Group had a post I found interesting.  Seems the person had an issue with something in the bandsaw causing a lot of noise.  Apparently, they knew it was not the Blade Guide Bearings -  so they removed the blade and spun the wheels.  They discovered the problem was with the needle bearings in wheel the hub(?s).  Definitely not the easiest thing to resolve - but apparently "do-able".  That's why I recommend going with checking the version of the bearings (and even so far as to removing, cleaning/lubing, and re-installing) before ordering new ones.

If/When you get the squealing eliminated, please post here what you did that achieved "the sounds of silence".

Hi Guys, Slightly off topic.... I am looking to renew/replace the bearing and blade guide units on my SS. The reason is because the bandsaw screams at me, no matter what/how I am cutting. Many years ago it went back to SS (in UK) and they couldn't stop the the racket, so I put up with it. Also, in the past I have replaced the bearings and the blade guides (not at the same time).
Still it screams at me!
My question ~ "is there an off the shelf" assembly that will fit the SS?
Thanks for your suggestions......
