What a "Bright Idea" you had!    Just don't throw it out!

Ok - with your last comment - my light bulb came on - with an idea for you to try on your "bulb".

At the "equator" of what would be the glass area - drill 2 holes all the way through to the other side - 90 degrees apart.  That results in there being 4 holes around the "equator" 90ยบ between each.
Next drill a hole up the middle of the base until it intersects with the above holes.
Now insert a battery powered LED bulb up that hole. 
You now have a "functional" light bulb - whether it sits on a shelf or is mounted as the knob on a cane.
