Bill, Down Under 66 'becomes" 99! 🙃 LoL! 🤪 Mac PS: And what sells here for 66¢ will sell down there for 99¢! (unfortunately for you.) -----Original Message----- From: Sent: Jan 8, 2022 4:21 AM To: Subject: RE: Modified Chisel /File handles 66 cents hell I thought it was 99cents that’s even better Bill From: 'Curt George' via Legacy Ornamental Mills Sent: Saturday, 8 January 2022 9:36 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Modified Chisel /File handles
I plan to try that, I think small is the way to go here. 1/4" or smaller bit is needed. At 66 cents each, I can buy the wood to make them for that, So its time to play. If I mess up, Its still a cheap way to spend my day. C.A.G. I have the day off form work! So I figured that I would start this quick project that I had planed to do this weekend. I found a number of cheap wood chisel/file handles at a tool store. They are nice, but I figured for the price why not try to modify them to make them a bit more fancier. The idea came form an old wood handled screw driver. (in photo #6) To turn an already made spindle I need to find a way to hold them, These handles are to small to use the Legacy drive hubs on by them self's, so I needed to make a jig to hold the part with. This jig anyone can make, All you need to do is, measure the dia. of the part. drill out the spindle with a drill bit the same size as your part. then cut slots in the spindle for clearance, and use a hose clamp to tighten down the jaws of this new jig, that will hold the spindle/handle in place while turning. I used the hole that I drilled in this jig as my center hole, putting the live center in the hole and then turn the spindle true on my Legacy. after the spindle was made then came the fun part. I mounted a cone live center (My Legacy has a MT2 shaft so I can use other tailstock adaptors.) to hold the end of the handle. and the part with the brass feral got tightened down in the jig that I just made. I used two different router bits, the first was just to big for what I wanted, and the second I think looks better was a 1/2" roping bit. All that I need to do now is lightly sand these file handles and then re-seal with wax or shellac so it smooth to the touch. Let me know I bought $10.00 worth of these handles, so I think I will be using them again more in the future. Please let me know what you think? talk to you all more latter. Have a good day.
