Curtis,

What I was wondering about is not the attachment of the wood turning and the
steel piece.

I am wondering how he got that pointed tip of the metal piece "attached"(?) to
the base.

That steel tip hardly looks long enough for him to have stuck it 1/2" or more
into the display base.

For sure - having it attached to that base makes it get your attention.

Hello everyone.

Mac. I have a bottle stoper kit, where it looks pretty much the same.

In my kit the brass insert is glued into the wood first, and then it's turned.
Ture it does not look like its very deep into the wood in the photo, But there
are other ways to get this job done, instead of adding a brass insert, the
maker could have just tapped the threads into the wood and then just added the
stopper into the wood with out. I would think a threaded wood plus some CA Glue
would give enough hold for this type of job? ...

But on the flip side. this stopper base may be like a chisel, and its a just
socket fit inside the stainless steel or brass body?

About the wooden base/holder, This leads me to think this is just scrap wood
form the wood shed, the base is most likely the base of the turning before it
was separated. (Just a guess?) spalted maple looks to be the base and the
upper/stopper has the same look for the center of this base.

I think this photo is a very good show piece, and it dose make me want to go
out and try it on the Legacy. I would think the hollow is just a 1/4" router
bit, with a 4 start rope. I would think a 3" or 4" pitch would make this rope,
(which looks to me, to be 1- 1/14" long.)

This type of project looks nice, it dose not use a lot of wood and could be
made pretty quickly, Which makes it a fun project for anyone, If you mess up,
you are out nothing but time, on this project. Its a win- win project where
the skills learned is more the goal then the project its self. ;-)

Have a great day everyone.

I, as well, like the base it is on.

Curtis, I am curious as to how he mounted the stopper to the base.

The stopper's point isn't normally long enough to have it penetrating very deep
into that heart-shape area on the base.

I also wonder if the stopper is able to be removed from the mount (easily) and
plugged into a bottle to use it as a stopper.

Hello Everyone,

I'm not back home Yet. (But I am back in the States, I'm in Florida visiting
in-laws at this time and will be home Tuesday.)

While killing some time, I saw this on the web. and though you all would like
to see it.

I plan to make something like this when I get back home.

This is small project and should be an easy one for anyone to make on their
Legacy.

I don't know if I 4 start like what is shown, or perhaps a 3 start would look
better?

I was wondering who would be up for a challenge and make this before I get
home, next week.

I would suggest a tight grain wood should be used, but any hardwood form the
fire-wood pile should work out nice for this small project.

If you don't have a wine stopper kit on hand to use, or a method to hold a
stopper, How about just doing a small hollow in a spindle?

Practice makes perfect, I would think a small project like this, should only
take up an hour of your time.

Let me know what you think?

talk to you all more latter.
