I agree that replacing the lead screw would have its own problems, (that's the basic reason why I have not done it.) But it would work. The way I handled the big post turnings is by making a new duplex gear and putting it in the linkage, Slowing down the gears movements. Here is my set up. I made this set to link up into my directional gear set bracket, (you take the directional gears off the bracket and then mount this bracket into the linkage of the Legacy.) By using this homemade duplex gear I can slow down the movement of the gears by x 2,3, or 4 times the normal rotation. I hope this make since to you all. I have to go.
