As this may be off-topic, replies ought to be sent to me at <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. If it's not off-topic and is of general interest, reply here. I need advice from those with experience who have scanned various vital records. I am mostly concerned with documents which are photocopies, that is, those records that are black text on white paper. I have been experimenting with .tif and .gif files. I have tried 300dpi and 600dpi. I have used Photo/Color, Magazine/Color, and Newspaper/Black & White. Sometimes it seems that Photo/Color works best. Sometimes it seems that 600dpi works best. My goal is to scan/copy into a graphic file what the original document looks like with minimal loss in detail. Your experience will be most helpful. The size of the resulting file is not a limiting consideration anymore with large and fairly cheap hard drives.
        Thank you in advance,
           Arnold
