I use FTM and Legacy.  I do my searching and merging with FTM and then I create small gedcoms and merge them into Legacy to update that specific information.  I definitely prefer Legacy for it’s overall editing ability, it has a lot more features than FTM.  Oh, the Deluxe edition does have a search feature but I haven’t had a chance to explore how it works yet.

Subject: [LegacyUG] merging online sources

Hi, I used to use Family Tree Maker (FTM) but switched for many reasons. What I did like about FTM was searching for sources online (specifically ancestry.com) then being able to merge that info (census record, birth or death record, etc) right into my family tree. I could merge the individual and if it listed family members then I could merge them as well. I haven’t been able to locate the same tool with Legacy. I am really liking Legacy but there is so much to learn! Does Legacy Deluxe Edition have a search option similar to what I was using with FTM? Since FTM is the preferred software that ancestry.com promotes I assume that means you can only merge sources if you use FTM? Anyone else used FTM? I was thinking, maybe I’ll use FTM, merge the sources, create a gedcom, import gedcom to legacy, but too many steps!

Any help greatly appreciated!

Melanie
