Thank you all for your input. It's interesting - the replies ranged from

or 3 photos to the more the better! I like the idea of including a photo
from baby/young adult/present because I had never thought of using them
to
compare characteristics. I had one time noted a similarity between my
grandmother and her previously (to me) unknown cousin though I never
thought
to make these comparisons on a regular basis. I also think I'll include
event photos for graduations, etc. The main reason I asked is that I had
previously linked quite a lot of photos, but the files themselves were in
various folders within the My Pictures folder. In my effort to clean-up
my
database prior to updating to V 7, I want to make copies of the linked
photos and keep them all in one place.

I like to use a picture from when a person was in their early 20s -
this allows for comparison of hair color and style (if men go bald in
your family, for example, as they do in mine). By comparing 8 people
from different descending lines, all about the same age, I was able to
point out similarities in jaw line, nose shape, eyebrows, eye color,
and hairline. I use high school graduation pictures or wedding
pictures predominately.
One thing I started doing was attaching the wedding picture to the
non-related spouse who was marrying into the tree. Because then in a
report, it appears next to the sentence, "So-and-so married so-and-so
on 4 Jul 1999 in California" which works out perfectly.
I do attach photos to events and use them. When I wrote my book in
Word, I added additional photos from my files. Now I need to go back
and attach those photos to the events in Legacy so that they will
appear there, too.
Most people want you to show how they look now, so you might have that
bias to overcome in getting people to send you photos from when they
were younger. I was lucky that my Dad scanned and sent me photos from
his old photo albums, and I had been taking pictures of my cousins
since I was about 12 years old, so was able to use those. I think they
are going to have a laugh when they see their pictures taken from
Thanksgiving 1981! All the bald young men today are going to see their
lovely old curls!! hehe
One other thing, I attached the baby photo of one great aunt on to the
record of her sister who died as a baby (for whom I had no picture),
with the caption, "She may have looked similar to this baby photo of
her sister Anna." This way I was able to get Anna's baby pic into the
report, and also let people have something to imagine when they read
about this infant who died.
