Well, you are certainly right-- however Legacy uses the term -- so I guess one could have adopted descendants and they would certainly not be "direct."

The *only* kind of descendants are "direct line" {How I hate that phrase!} descendants. In my 50+ years of genealogy work I have yet to see an example of "indirect line" descendants.

Well, it looks to me like you've selected descendants and direct line descendants twice. It seems to me those would be the same people.

I just created 2 focus groups for JE and descendants:

I followed the steps below:

FIRST GROUP/GEDCOM:
View
Focus Group
Add an individual and Descendants
1. Entire Descendant Line (includes ancestors of descendants)
OK
==
File
Export to
Gedcom
Record selection
Selected records in the Focus Group
View/Select Focus Group
2. Descedants (Direct Line)
OK
SELECT FILE NAME AND START EXPORT

+++
SECOND FOCUS GROUP/GEDCOM
View
Focus Group
Add an individual and Descendants
2. Descendants (includes all descendants)
OK
==
File
Export to
Gedcom
Record selection
Selected records in the Focus Group
View/Select Focus Group
2. Descedants (Direct Line)
OK
SELECT FILE NAME AND START EXPORT

***PROBLEM> I GET THE SAME number of individuals and families AND the same file size regardless of whether I've chosen the Entire line or the Direct Line
(almost my entire maternal family file).

Can someone tell me what am I doing wrong, please?

Thanks!!

Pat
