Hugh: I had an easier time of it because for reports I use the Descendant Book Report almost exclusively and don't use Events at all. Since source citations behave differently on different reports, everyone's results will vary considerably. So you're exactly right: We all use the program differently and one solution probably won't work for everyone.

Did you have this problem? I ended up giving up my Event preferences for Census records and City Directories and converted them to Residence events and even then they weren't perfect. I can envision a way of providing that degree of flexibility but I wouldn't want to try to code it, at least with the different ways we all use the Source and Detail splits.
