Always make a backup before opening your Legacy databases in Access.

In the first place, it's a misconception that you must rename your .fdb
file to .mdb in order to open it in MS Access. In the File|Open dialog
in Access, change the File Name to *.fdb to see your Legacy databases
and open them directly.

Secondly, you should be able to rename your .fdb to .mdb, edit it, then
rename it back to .fdb without a problem. Though I would recommend
making a backup and then directly editing the .fdb. If you get errors
doing this you probably edited something you shouldn't have.
