Pat,

1. The file is still a proper GEDCOM file and has the .ged extension so you do not need to worry that your computer says it is a FTW GEDCOM file.

2. As others have said FTM associates the .ged file extension with itself when it is first installed and every time you run the program it will re-associate the .ged extension with itself.
