You must first have a program installed on your computer that will open those kinds of files. For PDF files for example you need to have Adobe Reader or another program that will open a PDF file installed.

I tested Legacy for PDF files, Text files, jpg, tif and gif image files, mp3 sound files and an Open Office document file. All opened because I have software installed on my computer that will use those file types. Text files opened with Notepad, PDF with Acrobat Reader, MP3 with Windows Media Player, The Open Office document opened with Open Office and the Gif, TIF and JPG files opened with Irfanview, a program which can open many types of image files.

I have several hundred obituaries I've collected and scanned over the years
stored in a folder on my computer. These are in different formats...some are
JPG files, some .RTF others .TIF files some are .DOC files. I copied a handful
of them to a seperate folder for testing purposes. I directed Legacy (in the
LOCATIONS tab for DOCUMENT FILES) to this path. I then tried to attach these
documents to the individuals. They attach, but the only ones I can click
display/open to view for the individual after the attaching are those with the
.DOC format. Any of the other file extension types do nothing.

According to the documentation for this feature "These documents can be word
processing files, PDF files, spreadsheets, web pages - whatever you like. Just as with
sound and video files, these other documents cannot be included on reports, but you can
load and view them as you would any other file. Double-clicking on a word processor
document starts your word processor and displays the file. The same happens for any
other type of file. Whatever program is associated with that file type will be loaded to
display the file."

So why is it I can only open/view the .DOC files??
