My ggg grandfather appeared in court on 08 Nov 1851. He was there to prove that he was the Silas Simmons that fought in the War of 1812 and was at the Battle of New Orleans so that he would be entitled to bounty land (there was another Silas Simmons in the area so he went to court to prove he was who he said he was).

I am trying to figure out what the best way to title this event. Affidavit? (that is what the document it). Court Appearance (that one just sounds strange). This document isn't a deed. I don't know what I should title the event. Any suggestions?

I want it to be an event so that I can show the progession of all the events of his life in order of dates. (one of the reasons I like Legacy).
