Searching the help file for diacritics yields:

"Special Characters

"When entering information, Legacy offers a feature to help you quickly
enter international characters (letters with diacritics). You can
choose up to eight characters to be displayed in a ribbon on all input
screens. (This ribbon can be turned off if not needed. See Customize.)
Whenever you need one of these letters within a field, simply clicking
on one automatically fills it in where you are typing. TO SELECT THE
CHARACTERS FOR THE RIBBON, CLICK THE SMALL BLUE BUTTON AT THE TOP OF THE
RIBBON AND THEN DOUBLE-CLICK ON UP TO EIGHT CHARACTERS FROM THE
CHARACTER MAP . YOU CAN ALSO CLICK F6 WHENEVER YOU ARE IN A TEXT INPUT
FIELD TO DISPLAY THE CHARACTER MAP, WHERE YOU CAN THEN SELECT ANY
CHARACTER NEEDED."
