That would make sense because Win7 is really the same Vista kernel but with a
new GUI and revamped User Access Controls. WinXP users are/have been free to
install Legacy where ever they wanted on the hard drive. Makes no difference in
functionality. For example, my Legacy folder resides in "Program Files" and my
data files reside on "D:\Legacy Data Files". Doesn't make it any better, just
easier. The real difference is system security and user permissions. Not an
issue if the computer is in a home and used only by one person. But...I'll be
switching to Win7 as soon as the first service pack comes out. Then I'll have
to abide by the recommended default or figure out a way to fool the system.

With Vista, it does matter where you install Legacy. You must install to the
default c:\Legacy folder otherwise several errors will show up.

You may very well run into problems with Legacy installed to the Program Files
folder in Windows 7 also. We have heard reports of problems until it was
correctly installed to the default c:\Legacy folder.

Please trim your posts and send messages in plain text.

Thanks for using Legacy.

My Legacy program file is in the \Program Files directory but I'm using Windows
7 which eliminates the need for a separate folder which was needed in Vista.
But where you put the program doesn't really matter. The only thing it cares
about is where to find it's records.

The first is the location you need to set is that of your Legacy database (the
.fdb file and others). I've got mine in C:\Genealogy\Legacy. Everything I do
with my genealogy is in the C:\Genealogy folder. So, my pictures are in
C:\Genealogy\Pictures, etc.

I use sub directories for different family members so data that I've collected
(marriage licenses, etc.) go in the Legacy\Data\Walton folder or whichever part
of the family applies. Same for pictures. I don't have audio or video so I
don't use those.

Not sure what else you're looking for, so hope this helps.
