Thanks for the URL, Peggy, I was looking at a slightly different chart. I
cannot see how this can be done using Legacy alone. Personally I use Open
Office for moving around chunks of text, as you are doing, and leave it to
sort out the indexes. I don't know Word, but I guess it will do something
similar.

Although, having said that, and I can also see why you may wish to change
the Descendant Report layout, personally I wouldn't do it, as this is the
standard layout for this type of report.

Good luck, and I hope you get there.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for responding to my query. I currently have 8 generations of
descendants listed in my database. If I were to navigate to someone in,
say, the 2nd generation from the index and click on the FAMILY tab, I would
see that person, spouse and their children listed. From this screen, I
click on the DESCENDANT tab and this shows a staggered generation view.

I see the 2nd generation person I searched for followed by their first child
and then their first grandchild and any subsequent firsts further down the
line and then it comes back to display the original person's second child
followed by that person's first child, etc etc.

The book format (from what I have seen) will list everyone in generational
order (all the 2nd generation folks then all the 3rd generation folks, etc
etc). I am trying to find a way to show the generations in staggered view
as explained in the above paragraph.

Sometimes a visual helps better than words.... please see the following

IF there is a way to get this look with all the people information in
descendant book layout - I would LOVE to know how to do this. I started
editing the usual view on Friday and I am still working on sorting people
around. I'm only on child 2 of 7! I had hope to have the basics completed
and slightly formatted and to a printer before tomorrow to take with me to
visit my elderly aunt this weekend out of state. I don't think that is
going to happen. :-) The book is currently at 758 pages without table of
contents or the index, just family info and the source citations.

Thanks for any input or ideas on this. I really appreciate them.

Peggy

Hello,

I have been using Legacy for quite some time now and have created descendant
books from the program. However, the sorting of the individuals is not how
I would like them to appear in the book and so have in the past spend
countless DAYS reworking the individuals around. I would like to know if
there is a way to resort the individuals to get them to appear in a
different format please.

What I would like is to see the option of having everyone sorted as they are
on the Descendant chart with their full information and notes. My
Descendant Chart alone is 19 pages for this ancestral couple. The
subsequent book starts out at over 500 pages in it's current versioning.

I'm trying to get another book together rather quickly before mid-week to
get to the printer before I leave to visit relatives on New Year's Day in a
different state than I am in. I started working on the current version of
this book on Friday and I am still working on sorting through all of the
descendants of the 1st child of this ancestral couple yet.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Peggy
