Lincoln, "Never Married" only applies if you have a spouse linked and have selected that option for "status" on the Marriage Information edit window.
"Never married and had no children" will show if you have no spouses showing in the spouse list and have selected "This individual never married and had no children" on the Individual's Information edit window.
