Looking for advice on naming conventions, specifically how to identify commonly
used given names.

I know that quotes are used in the help file example Margaret "Peggy" Ann. And
that makes sense to me - Peggy is a diminutive and not her proper name, hence
quotes set it apart. I have a good collection of those. But if I write Marie
Victoire "Virginie" Eugenie, it doesn't look right to me because they are all
her proper baptismal names and "Virginie" then appears to be something other
than a proper name. I'd be happy with Marie Victoire Virginie "Ginny" Eugenie
- if that were the case, but it isn't.

Also, if I put a first name in quotes ("Marie" Louise), then it upsets the
alpha listing. So, how does one distinguish that Marie is the commonly used
name - when in most French names, Marie always appears but is seldom used? I
realize that the first name will automatically appear in the narrative part of
reports, or be replaced by the name in quotes. But what about when there is no
narrative?

Using AKA can work but then consistency becomes an issue - I use AKA where
there are discrepancies in names from document to document - in other words an
alternate or perhaps questionable name. And creating an AKA for every nickname
or commonly used name is a lot of work and adds a lot of unnecessary listings
to the names list. It seems to me that a simple underline feature in the names
field would sort it all out - underlining the commonly used name and putting
nicknames or diminutives in quotes where applicable. But that doesn't exist in
Legacy.

Or am I making this all too difficult for myself?
