That's the whole point of "about" - it's MEANT to be imprecise!

Would that there *was* always a way to check the BMDs!  Where possible,
of course I always do consult BMD indexes and record a more exact date
"June Q 1884" but it just isn't always possible. People have this
annoying habit of being born in far off countries or before statutory
birth registers and so on.

As for level of accuracy, as Ron pointed out the age given in the Census
might not be accurate anyway!  Ten years one side or the other might
actually be nearer the truth.
