The more genealogy I do the more I realise how broad and diverse the
subject is, from which it follows that it would be impossible for a general
mailing list to be of any value.

Even with this restricted list I have had to change the subject because the
header no longer related to this topic - which is almost certainly off-topic
for this list anyhow. Imagine what could happen with a general, open list.
There are people who are interested in Legacy *which is what this list is
for*, One-Names Studies, DNA, Genealogy of different trades and professions,
of royalty, heraldry, UK, the continents etc. etc. etc.. Not forgetting, of
course, all the computing and technical aspects of genealogy. One would
never be able to find a thing!

I cannot see, indeed haven't found, that it takes a lot of effort to find a
suitable list for any single aspect, and since we are all supposed to be
genealogists, and hence familiar with at least basic research, we know how
to use Google and other search engines to find what we are looking for. Some
of these even allow HTML/Rich formatting which is not allowed on this list.

Anyhow, as I said, this subject is, in my view, off topic for this list, so
I will say no more.
