JLB's message reminded me to send a request to the Legacy folks that they should include the ability to read ITPC data in Legacy. Ideally, Legacy would even allow us to input data using the ITPC standard.
The ITPC data standard is used by many popular picture editing and/or organizing programs. Since the data about the picture is embedded in the picture file itself, any program that uses the IPTC standard can "see" that data. It's kinda-sorta like writing the info on the back of a hard-copy photo. No matter who inherits the digital photo, if they use a program that reads ITPC data (which most programs in the future will probably do), they will be able to see the embedded data. This could include names of the people in it, when and where it was taken, etc. The folks at Legacy have been ahead of the game in providing us with a way to attach pictures to our genealogy info. In fact, that ability was the main one that caused me to switch to Legacy from FTM. However, now that a popular standard is available, it is very important that Legacy allow us to use that standard.
