And to add to Tim's excellent advice - back up periodically during the merge if it's a particularly long one!
If you get a little "punchy" from reviewing all that data and accidentally merge two individuals that aren't duplicates...... It's a lot easier to go back if you've only merged a few instead of needing to start all over from the beginning. Been there - done that - voice of experience <rbg> And yes - requests for "undo last merged couple" has been sent to the programmers! Thanks for using Legacy. A tip for the day. We have many questions and catastrophes in our support system. Always backup before you match/merge. It can make a mess of your data if you are not careful. If you need help, don't forget to use the help file, or the manual, supp...@legacyfamilytree.com, or this list. During the match/merge, look for all surrounding information. Any tab will have a * on it means there is conflicting information on that tab. -General- tab, not only look at the names, but watch for the notes, the small black box. Click on it for further information. Select the correct radio button to merge. On the -Family- tab, be sure to look under the main window for the Fathers information, and Mothers information. This is a location that needs to be a through consideration. -Notes- tab, Append or Replace..... You can also Edit the Individuals data at this time. Be careful when using all the different tabs. I always keep a notepad in front of me for further items. I have found a large spiral note book to keep all I do each time I make a changes in areas that are questionable or misunderstood data. Remember, you merge the data from the right hand screen to the left. You can also swap sides at this time. Comments or experiences ?
