This is submitted as a warning of very peculiar behaviour of Legacy under
certain circumstances.
The situation arose while cleaning up a Legacy file after a GED Import using
"File Maintenance".
A number of couples had 2 different MRIN Marriages. The difference is the
Gender is reversed in each MRIN.
Attempts to correct the Gender by "Swap Husband & Wife" in "Edit" appeared
to work but the other MRIN
appearance just swapped as well so got no where. Changing the Gender in
LTools did the same.
Only one appearance of each Spouse (RIN) in Index & Gender was correct.
Added odd point is that some times the children are shared between the 2
MRINs, other times there are duplicated appearances of *some* of the
children. Not once was all children duplicated.
The fact that there were children attached in most cases made it hard to
decide how to unravel the situation.
So I attempted to "Unlink" a spouse where the Gender was wrong. *The Family
View "Page" froze*.
Could reduce it to Tray so not my Video Card. Could not navigate up or down
to a different generation.
Could not open "Individuals Information". Tried "Escape" for Fault code but
none appeared.
Went to File & it showed other recent fdb's, so I chose another to get out
of that Screen.
Now here is the *WEIRD PART*; I could navigate the *new fdb* behind the
frozen screen & get "Individuals Information" box etc. & Navigate but not
have them on the screen. Had to Close Legacy & hope I had not lost children
or linking. Happened twice so I decided to Unlink the children 1st, then
Unlink Spouse. Turned out OK.
Took 6 iterations of File Maintenance to clear all oddities.
