Al - I think I accomplished what you're trying to do via Tagging and Export (original email quoted below). Here were my steps:
First, select the key ancestor of interest (for you: "his oldest daughter and her descendants from only her 2nd marriage"). 1. Navigate to Edit/Tag_Records and when the Advanced Tagging box opens, click Clear All Tag Numbers for Everyone. <**NOTE: If you maintain permanent tags, you'll have to do this step differently to clear only a specific tag for use in this exercise.**> 2. In advanced tagging box, set tag number you want to use in "Make changes on #" area. I used tag #1. 3. In same box, click on Descendants... button. 4. Click on Spouse... box and select the desired spouse. 5. Back in Descendant Options box (Advanced Tagging), select the Number of Generations to Include, and also click on Descendants <not Entire Descendant Line>. Click OK. 6. Close Advanced Tagging box and spot check to ensure the proper spouse and descendants (only) have been tagged. Next, select the father of the key ancestor (for you: "the immigrant ancestor"). 1. Navigate to Edit/Tag_Records and when the Advanced Tagging box opens, click on Family... 2. A "Spouse List for" box pops up. Make sure the 4 checkboxes are UNchecked. 2. In the spouse area at the bottom, select a single spouse or all spouses (for the father of the key ancestor), as desired. Lastly, go the File/Export To... and select Legacy File... 1. Give the new exported file a name. 2. Click on All Records With an Individual Tag Of... and select the tag number you used. 3. UNclick the Export all spouses and Export all parents boxes, because all the people you want are already tagged. 4. Click on Start the Export, and when the confusing AutoSource Reminder box pops up, just select Don't Assign a Source (unless you want to create a new master source to identify the origin of the exported records). 5. Open the new file and check to see whether the people you want (and only those) are there. If you're just a few people "off" either way, return to your master Legacy File and tag/untag those few manually. After a little tweaking, the process above worked for me without any manual tagging. Hope this helps. It's a general process I wanted to figure out as well, so your question was opportune... :-) Mark Monday, July 5, 2010, 11:07:18 AM, Al wrote: > Hello! > I want to create Descendant Charts and Reports in which I can > select one specific descendant line and eliminate all others. > I want to start my report with the immigrant ancestor, his wife, > and a list of their 10 children.
