I don't know why all your family files should be inaccessible - Legacy will open files created in earlier versions, it's just going backwards that is not possible. Also, why are you keeping "dozens of backups made over many years"? Surely, they will nearly all be quite out of date now as each later one should supersede the one before it. (I usually keep my main file and 2 backups, deleting the oldest backup when creating a new one.) And, as you seem to have discovered, there is no point in keeping backups so long that the format in which they were created becomes obsolete. Bear in mind that *everything* has a limited life - floppy disks, CDs, printed paper... Apart from making regular backups in Legacy format, you can print Reports and keep paper copies and/or electronic files (RTF, PDF for example) and you can export to GEDCOMs which can be opened by most other genealogy programs. Also, Legacy family files can be opened in MS Access and the database program of Open Office. -- Jenny M Benson Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp
