I have answered this off list for our convenience, and also as it
doesn't apply to the workings of Legacy.

Read receipt requests are on by default for my setup which I also use
for my business. I find requesting receipts can be a very useful tool
when dealing with some people and particularly companies.

I would respectfully advise that there isn't anything in the Etiquette
asking for this facility to be turned off, and that you consider
changing your setup either to refuse to send read receipts or always
send them if you are bothered by being asked whether to send one or not.
