I set up a test file with the following: - Mary Morgan married John Smith - I added a daughter Anne Smith - I set the daughter Anne as adopted by both John & Mary - I set John & Mary to divorced - I added a new husband temporarily for Mary (named Harry, with no last name) - I added a new daughter named Betty Morgan for Mary & Harry - I set the daughter Betty as adopted by Mary, and left the field blank for Harry's relationship - I then deleted (not unlinked) Harry - Lastly, just to be sure, I ran all three file maintence actions The database looks consistent with the situation Rita describes, I think. Then I ran a Descendant Narrative report on Mary Morgan with the following results: > Descendants of Mary MORGAN > > 1-Mary MORGAN. > > Mary married John SMITH. The marriage ended in divorce. They had > one daughter: Anne. > > 2-Anne SMITH. (Relationship to Father: Adopted, Relationship > to > Mother: Adopted ) > > Mary next adopted a child She had one daughter: Betty. > > 2-Betty MORGAN. (Relationship to Mother: Adopted ) If I understand the original post correctly, this appears to be the desired result. Obviously it's not the way things should have to be set up, but it seems to work. Hope this helps.
