My gmail shows the formatting choice immediately above the box you
type in on the far left side; it says "rich formatting" right now and
if I click on it, it will change it to rich formatting style or HTML;
if it says "plain text", that means you are sending it in HTML and
need to change it; it indicates what you can change it to, not what
you are using right now. So if it says "plain text", then you need to
click on it to make the change. Does that make sense? You'd think
that when it says "plain text" it means that's what you are using; or
at least that is what I would have thought haha!

Other posts have been saying that it doesn't matter sometimes because
if you reply to an HTML post, yours picks up that same style. I don't
know about that because every time there's a complaint I go and look
at my posts and they all say I've still got it in plain text mode.
Frustrating.

The only way I ever know if someone posted in HTML is if they happen
to use colors or different fonts; that sort of embellishing. None of
that bothers me and likewise, it doesn't bother me to try to post in
plain text. It does bother me when we get this sniper attack when
someone makes a mistake, always unwittingly. It's not like we're out
here creating wild and crazy posts just to tick people off.

My understanding is that the HTML takes up more "bandwidth" and not
only takes up a bit more space on the servers but people with very
slow connections have a hard time getting them to load properly; I
think it takes a long time to open and that's why some people get so
annoyed; nobody wants to sit around waiting five minutes for an email
to open. I might be wrong about that but that seems to be what I've
heard is the problem with HTML.
