Richard: I believe this is incorrect. You *can* have a Master Source that isn't used (not attached to any individual). You can also Purge Unused (Sources > Options), but I don't know how to get a list of them.

The attaching makes it saved. Thay may be lurking in your database somewhere, but they should disappear randomly, or as you edit the source, you actually step on top of the first. Example Census 1910 US Ohio. If attached to one person, you can change it to 1920 US Indiana. This gives two sources. If not attached, it will CHANGE it to only Indiana, and the Ohio on gets stepped on.
