Jerry,

I did as you suggested, and lo and behold, the resulting GEDCOM did
indeed have the _PLAC_DEFN and LATI/LONG entries!  I'll import it
into TNG and see what happens.  Thanks for your persistence and
help!  Perhaps TNG can now adapt their position that GEDCOM 5.5 is required.
