When I've upgraded, I've actually gone to the website and downloaded the full
setup file - all 53Mb of it! Once done, I've run it and during the upgrade it
asked me if I wanted to install the DB. I've not had the courage to say no and
so haven't found out if saying so wiped out an already installed DB. Does the
web-based upgrade ask the question? Perhaps saying no, kills the
previously-installed DB.
