Wouldn’t the correct way to cite a death certificate be to use the format of online images since you don’t have the actual death certificate from NC? I have several death certificates from Kentucky. Some of them I do actually have the actual death certificate, but you can also access it on ancestry. When I have both I usually do 2 citations. But, if I have one directly from the state I will do a citation where I have the actual copy. Am I wrong in how I cite it?

The question I ask myself is "would someone on the LUG be able to duplicate my work?" If I answer yes, then I go with the "condensed" version. Only if I thought the group could not follow what I meant - if they were to read my work - would I consider using two separate citations. -----Original Message----- From: Mary Moyer <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Sat, Feb 12, 2011 9:12 pm Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Citing Death Certificates from Ancestry.com I would use the newest version of NC State Board of Health and then note that other names such as NC Department of Health and NC Department of Health and Human Services have also been used in the past. Mary From: Joshua Crump <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Subject: [LegacyUG] Citing Death Certificates from Ancestry.com Date: Sat, 12 Feb 2011 17:42:37 -0500 In my family file I have 17 death certificates all from Ancestry.com but I am confused how to cite them. They are all from North Carolina but some have the State Board of Health header and some have NC Department of Health and NC Department of Health and Human Services Human Services header I am guessing they changed it a while back. Should I use one citation or should use two? Thanks for the help, Joshua Crump ____________________________________________________________ $65/Hr Job - 25 Openings Part-Time job ($20-$65/hr).
