From the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team's web site at http://www.us-cert.gov/reading_room/virus.html#email "Can I get a virus by reading my email messages? "Most viruses, Trojan horses, and worms are activated when you open an attachment or click a link contained in an email message. If your email client allows scripting, then it is possible to get a virus by simply opening a message. It's best to limit what HTML is available in your email messages. The safest way to view email messages is in plain text. end." So the answer to your question is yes, a virus can hide in embedded images, scripts, etc. I don't know what embedded text is but if it is embedded, it can hide viruses. -- Gene Young Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp
