Sheri, I guess unlinked individuals does get the person into Legacy, but I work as you do and would be worried I would never "see" that person again!
I would add the person's name in full to the "in my tree" person maybe as an event. I am recalling a "Witness" event. Maybe I generated that one myself, tho. Perhaps in the burial event of a prominent person in your tree, this person can be mentioned, including "John Doe served in this capacity for several of our family members." to help you remember he's "in there" but unlinked...? Thanks for sharing this item. ;) --Paula in Texas Researching: Adair Baker Betz Bigley Blagrave Burton Chapman Clement Clough Coppernoll Costine Daulton Dinwiddie Doody Ellis Exline Field Floran Floyd Gates Goodale Gordon Gump Harbaugh Hopkins Hughes Jones Koyle Laswell McDonald Misner Passwaters Pelton Roberts Roche Ryburn Sullivan Williams ----- Original Message ---- From: Sheri Harris <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Sun, March 6, 2011 11:20:37 AM Subject: [LegacyUG] Important person but un-related First, thanks to all your suggestions on how to handle my unknown grandchildren questions! Since I'm still going over all my obituaries in my files, I've run across another situation. In many of my obituaries and other documents, I've run across names of individuals over and over again but cannot find any relationship. For example, John Doe's name keeps appearing in many documents concerning several of my relatives. He's listed as a pallbearer for several relatives' funeral services, an informant on a death certificate, some church meeting transcripts, and other documents. This person must have been an important part of my relative's life, by either being a very close friend, neighbor, or fellow church/organization member. I have added these as un-linked individuals, with events showing his connection with my relative, i.e, he was a pallbearer for Sallie Smith's funeral, with the dates, places, notes, and citations and added that same information to the corresponding relative event list, i.e, John Doe was a pallbearer, etc. I've also added these to my to-do list to find out more about them, etc., so I can get a broader picture of my relatives' lives. With some of my relatives, it appears that they were active in their church or organization, with their lives revolving around it. Since I have such limited research time and may have long periods between research, I need to keep as much information as possible in Legacy, and where it can almost 'slap me in the face' when I'm working in Legacy. <snip> Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp
