You are correct to trim the messages so that only relevant text is
included. Here is item 5 in the guidelines on the etiquette page.

5. Please only include relevant return text when replying. Mail boxes
can quickly become cluttered by with meaningless "me too" or "thank you"
messages that are devoid of any other relevant text, and replies
containing pages and pages of an ongoing message thread.

At the very least you should always trim the "standard" lines added to
every message so they are not repeated ad infinitem as replies are
traded back and forth.
