I should have said posting online and not publishing.  I was also speaking of 
posting to other websites such as Ancestry.com which leaves it available to 
anyone who has a subscription.

Posting to our own websites is probably considered publishing, but I was 
referring to a book that someone has to buy first and not get for free online.

independently and not online." There is no difference between publishing
on-line and in a book, provided that, as many of us do, we own the website.
