The only thing that ever shows up in my unspecified field is from merging
data from another gedcom/database.  When you do that, a pop up box gives you
options for sourcing that action; you can choose to have no source included
at all, have one source added to the unspecified field or have the source
added to every field that has data and you get to choose what that source
will be.  For me, that has been something to the effect of "john smith's
research data"
