Hi Kathy,

Like you, I am learning about my family from public records because my family
was very secretive. I am hoping that posting this mini-tree on Ancestry might
lead me to a link between the other family and mine that was linked briefly
through a marriage. How long this marriage lasted and what happened to spouse
#1 is my principal concern. It all happened so long ago, I have no idea whether
anyone would still know.  My brick wall could be the matching
secretiveness from the other side.

I have learned to greatly admire this immigrant family. It appears they
travelled to the US from eastern Europe, moving on from state to state, and
perserved despite what I believe were grave losses by 1930. The only member
whose death I can verify, born in state #1, died in state #3, and resided in
state #2 in 1930.

Thanks for your encouragement.

Margaret

If you have an SSDI record, I'd add him/her. If not, I'd presume they were
living.  And I'd be more excited to think that they were possibly living and
would do everything I could to try to locate that person and interview him/her!

Just my two cents from someone who has had very private grandparents and had to
develop my research only from records; personal information from a living
relation, no matter how distant, is a godsend.  You never know what they have
heard about the family or what they might have inherited thru shared ancestors.

Good luck!  Ancestry is a great place to hook up with people sharing your
ancestry! Kathy

Hi all,

I'm planning to create my first GEDCOM file. I've looked into the Legacy Help
Section and found archived messages helpful.

I see mention of "unexpected consequences."  Even using the GEDCOM 5.5 options
and selecting basic GEDCOM file, is there anyway to preview the results? I'm
planning to select a focus group of fewer than 15 people. Can I create it, and
export it into my Legacy under create a new family file?  Would this allow me
to preview the results?  Or is there any way to preview the results?

My intention is to eventually export the file  into Ancestry.com so that
I can attach
specific Census forms, a WW I draft registration card and a SS death index
doc. I intend to make comments on these records. It is my belief that all these
people are dead. If not, they would be in their nineties. I do not see how
attaching a 1930 Census would compromise the privacy of any of the individuals
if they are still alive.  Am I wrong about this?

 Any comments would be appreciated?

I've found this Users Group super helpful.

Margaret
