The simplest method would involve using .htaccess. Google it.

The method you suggest probably involves some server-side code execution
(PHP) and someplace to store the IDs and PASSWORDs (a database like
MySQL or a text file). A web framework like WordPress uses this method.
Probably not suitable for Legacy to address this issue when a method
like .htaccess can be used instead.
